South Korea's Lotte Group Advances in Metaverse with Largest Arbitrum Blockchain Grant
Arbitrum, a prominent Ethereum Layer-2 network, and South Korea's Lotte Group have announced a significant collaboration to propel Lotte's metaverse platform, Caliverse, using blockchain technology. This partnership, revealed at CES 2025 in Las Vegas, marks Arbitrum's largest developer grant and centers on integrating Lotte's AI-driven 3D gaming platform with Arbitrum's blockchain capabilities. Users of Caliverse will soon experience enhanced virtual worlds where they can engage in activities like futuristic shopping and interacting with brands such as 7-Eleven and Tomorrowland. The integration of Arbitrum allows transactions within the Caliverse to be processed using the blockchain, both improving transaction speed with Arbitrum’s 250ms block times and ensuring a consumer-friendly experience. This development not only represents a leap in blockchain application in mainstream venues but also strengthens Arbitrum’s role as a leading infrastructure for gaming and virtual environments. The collaboration underscores a renewed interest from traditional businesses in exploring metaverse and blockchain technologies, which had seen a dip in enthusiasm in recent years. With this initiative, Lotte and Arbitrum set a new standard for blockchain interactions within virtual platforms.
