EU Crypto Regulation Update: DORA and MiCA Bolster Cybersecurity and Market Integrity
Cryptocurrency firms across the European Union must enhance their cybersecurity measures as the new Digital Operational Resilience Act (DORA) takes effect on January 17. This regulation applies not only to banks but also to crypto-asset service providers, enhancing the digital operational resilience of the financial sector. DORA mandates comprehensive risk management frameworks, including third-party ICT risk management and contractual registries. In parallel, the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) extends its oversight, requiring all MiCA-licensed entities to now comply with DORA provisions. Crypto.com has advanced in this regulatory environment, securing an "in-principle" MiCA license, which governs consumer safety and targets financial crimes in the EU. This aligns with Crypto.com's expansion in North America and affirms its market growth, as evidenced by its increased share in spot and derivatives trading. Together, these regulations aim to protect investors and ensure the continuity and integrity of crypto market operations within the EU.
