SEC Awaits New Chair: Solana and XRP Could See ETF Clarity
With Donald Trump's presidency ushering in new SEC leadership, the cryptocurrency sector may experience significant changes soon. Trump's pick, Paul Atkins, is set to take over the SEC, pending Senate approval. During this transition, the SEC's stance on various cryptocurrencies is particularly significant. Katherine Dowling, Bitwise's Chief Compliance Officer, anticipates that under new direction the SEC could reshape its approach towards cryptocurrencies, including the contested status of assets like Solana and XRP. Currently, the complexity of these assets' securities status has likened them to “dolphins caught in fishing nets”, needing clearer regulatory frameworks to move forward. Moreover, there is optimism surrounding the approval processes for ETFs linked to less controversial cryptocurrencies such as Dogecoin, which the SEC does not classify as a security. This openness could potentially make a Dogecoin ETF more feasible in the near future. Additionally, a combined Bitcoin and Ethereum ETF might also see swift approval under the new chairmanship.
