Indian Police Intensify Crackdown on Crypto Scammers Amidst Rising Fraud Cases
Indian police recently dismantled a $2.4 million crypto scam affecting over 2,000 victims from Assam and Meghalaya, utilizing a fraudulent crypto game called RSN. Three individuals, Asadul Islam, Hashanur Zaman, and Kobad Ali Mollah, were arrested in a late-night operation, although the mastermind Hekmot Ali Sarkar is still at large. The scam took advantage of digital payment platforms and cryptocurrencies like Tether to divert funds to international accounts, with the scam operations traced back to China. In addition to arresting suspects, police seized mobile phones, laptops, and SIM cards which revealed further evidence of nationwide criminal activities involving rented bank accounts. This incident is part of India's broader efforts to combat the increasing menace of crypto-related frauds, as exemplified by actions from various Indian enforcement agencies against multiple large-scale Ponzi schemes across the country.
