CFTC Approves Coinbase for 24/7 Bitcoin and Ethereum Futures Trading
Coinbase has announced that it will offer Bitcoin and Ethereum futures trading 24/7 through its Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC)-regulated platform, Coinbase Derivatives, LLC. This marks the first availability of perpetual-style futures contracts without expiration dates in the U.S., aligning the country with international trading practices. The initiative targets both institutional and retail traders, ensuring compliance with U.S. regulations through partnership with Nodal Clear for clearing services. This move is seen as a step towards addressing inefficiencies in the U.S. derivatives market by allowing non-stop trading, thus increasing liquidity and enhancing competitive standing. Coinbase aims to expand this offering to include a new type of perpetual-style futures contract, further integrating U.S. market practices with global trends and pushing for broader regulatory acceptance and market resilience.
