SEC Postpones Key Decisions on Dogecoin and Other Cryptocurrency ETFs Amid Regulatory Review
The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has again postponed its decision on the approval of spot exchange-traded funds (ETFs) for cryptocurrencies including Dogecoin, XRP, Solana, and Litecoin until May 2025. These delays affect multiple applications from ETF providers such as VanEck, Canary, and Grayscale, with revised final decision dates now stretching into late May 2025. The SEC cites the need for extended review periods to address unresolved issues within the proposed rule changes. Notably, this series of delays comes as the market remains attentive to the potential confirmation of Paul Atkins as the new SEC chair, whose pro-crypto stance is widely recognized. Bloomberg ETF analysts James Seyffart and Eric Balchunas suggest high odds of eventual approval for these ETFs, despite the postponements. Franklin Templeton has also made a recent entry into the space with its filing for an XRP spot ETF, aiming to reflect the cryptocurrency's price performance. Current market dynamics and impending regulatory leadership changes continue to shape the landscape for cryptocurrency ETFs, pointing towards a cautiously optimistic outlook for eventual approvals.
